About your Tutor:

My name is Aiga Tone, I’m originally from Latvia, living in Ireland for 15 years. I’m a crafter, felt maker for the last 4 years, creating my felted items here in Kinvara, County Galway.

Class Description:

Sheep’s fleece is absolutely unique and a beautiful material to work with. I love it! So I have decided to do the felting class, to teach people how to felt the right way so at the end you are getting a good, quality item. I would also like to show what can be made out of just fibre using your imagination, your hands and soapy water.

In this class we will be felting an Irish country pillowcase 40cm X 40cm using only local Irish sheep fleece which will be offered to you by a beautiful crafter, spinner and my dear colleague, Sandra King. I will provide 3 types of designs so each student can choose the one they would like to create.

There will only be a little bit of theory. I will talk about the specifics of wool-shrinkage. Also during the felting process we will be using different techniques to get a good quality item at the end.

All materials for felting will be provided. At the end of my class everyone will bring home a pillowcase with the pillow and starter kit with handmade tool by a local craftsman, made especially for this class. Also, an amount of fleece, so by going home every one of you will be able to make another pillowcase on your own! Other tools and materials will also be given to you, which you will need if you decide to bring this fantastic and unique type of craft into your life.

So, see you soon and I hope that you will fall in love with felting like I did.

Let it happen!
